The Problem With Super Pollutants
Hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, were originally introduced to solve a different crisis. Back in the late 1980s, global leaders signed the Montreal Protocol to eliminate chlorofluorocarbons, which were burning a massive hole in the earth's ozone layer. HFCs replaced them cleanly without eating ozone.
There was just one fatal flaw.
